<rant>VI sucks! It is absolutely driving me crazy. It’s like writing code by smashing your head against the keyboard with a blind fold. </rant>
VI is driving me crazy

Accessibility is more than making sure images have alternate text. I work with engineers, product managers, and designers to understand how accessibility impacts the users, set realistic deadlines, and create the solutions to provide a delightful experience to all users, regardless of their physical, sensory, or cognitive ability. Sounds like you need an improved .vimrc file. Shoot me an email if you want an example. I use vim all day every day with php xhtml css, and I love it.
Whee! Console rules!
Sorry to disagree with you, but a program that has had hundreds of thousands of loyal users for the last -35- years can’t be all bad. Read this to help you get started:

I think vim is great!
Maybe he actually IS using vi instead of vim, as that had dreadful keyboard mappings
VIM is cool, but VI is the one that was killing me. I picked up the habit of typing VI from a certain person who should remain anonymous, Glen, that likes that god awful program. Luckily, my kvetching got another programmer to introduce me to Pico. Which I actually like quite a bit.
How to install Pico: http://www.dedicated-resources.com/guide/22/How-To-Install-PICO-Editor.html
and then pico ~/.bashrc
insert alias vi=pico
voila, vi is banished forever
I’m not much of a fan of VI, it’s better then nothing, but there are better editors available.
I use Joe’s own editor (joe): http://joe-editor.sourceforge.net/
it has some nice features and the keyboard mappings are much nicer then VI ๐
Preach it, reverend … using VI is like trying to change the sheets in a hotel room by poking a bent coat hanger in through the keyhole. WinSCP PuTTY TextPad = much less stress.
